CoreyStrong, in partnership with the 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation, was founded in honor of Corey LaFave. Corey was an inspiring young man; loyal to his friends, supportive of his family, and loving towards his wife. Corey had a deep relationship with God that radiated throughout his life. His passion and intense spirit drew people to him, allowing him to infect others with the same tenacity.
In May 2017, Corey was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. Thus began the journey of 14 cycles of chemotherapy, split up by surgery to remove the tumor-affected ribs. After cycle seven, Corey went through surgery with flying colors, allowing for him to be classified as NED in August. Corey and his family believed it was smooth sailing, until a CAT scan in November showed the cancer returned full force. The doctors at Moffitt Cancer Center and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital did what they could, offering experimental treatments and medications that could help. Sadly, Corey’s battle came to an end February 12, 2018 at the young age of 24.
Through his battle, Corey always kept his spirits up. He never let the diagnosis keep him from laughing, playing video games, or spending time with his loved ones. Most importantly, Corey never let the diagnosis stop him from living his life. We chose the symbol of fire because that’s what Corey was. He burned with intensity and without fear. It was impossible to overlook him because his personality radiated out of him. Now, we at CoreyStrong have decided to carry on his legacy, to be the fire in other people’s lives much like he was the fire in ours.
Be The Fire.
